In Luxor we stayed at the Winter Palace Hotel, which a very nice, historic, Luxor landmark. Drew and I shared a room and agreed to meet Tony and Beth later to stroll around and explore Luxor. After showering and changing clothes, Drew and I went to the bar for a beer, but were told that we could not remain there unless we were wearing a tie.
Tony made most of the arrangements, which included two days with a local guide named Ali. Ali turned out to be a perfectly delightful little man, well-versed in local history, with a playful personality and a great sense of humor. For two days as our guide in Luxor and the Valley of The Kings, including transportation, we each pitched in $50. It was a bargain.
Luxor is the ancient capital of Egypt and has so many ancient ruins and archeological sites that it is dizzying. The highlight was a night sound and light show at the Kamak Temple.
