Calcium, NY
It was July and balmy last time I posted here. Not now. But “warmer than yesterday!”
It should not get this cold. Ever. And similar (if not quite so extreme) temps predicted for the coming week. Bad.

At the risk of overblogging (is that a word?) about chickens, I felt I needed to report to you, dear readers, about the latest predation on my small flock of hens. A red-tailed hawk has moved into the neighborhood.

I get teased a lot at work about my chickens. Sure, I bring it on myself as I talk a lot about my chickens, but still, I get teased all the time. But I take it all in stride. I just let it roll off of me like, um, water off a hens feathers. Yeah, just like that.

This winter has, by all accounts, been milder than last winter which was, in turn, a mild winter by North Country standards. We got one heavy snow in early December, and a few sub-zero mornings, but January typically saw overnight lows around 20 and daytime highs in the mid to high thirties. And little snow.
I continue to be fascinated and obsessed with the weather forecast, eve though it is generally pretty useless. We’re just north of the Tug Hill Region, which has notoriously heavy snow. We seem to get spared the worst of it, though.

I’ve known for many years that my hearing sucked. I had long attributed this to my four years of active duty in the Army in the early 1980s, but I later saw an audiogram taken when I first joined the Army and there was marked hearing loss even then. I know I had a lot of ear infections as a kid, but lots of kids have those without much hearing loss. I shot 22s (and an occasional 45 or 12-gauge shotgun) a lot as a teen and never used hearing protection, but none of my friends I shot with had hearing damage from that.

Seborga, Nice, London, Montreal, and Calcium
And thus the delightful trip with knucklehead friends draws to a close. One last morning of drinking coffee on the balcony with the view of the Mediterranean and Monaco, listening to roosters crow and Al bray.

Seborga & San Remo
After such an exciting few days, we decided to start the morning a little different and…lazed around after a leisurely breakfast and shot the shit. Why fix it if it ain’t broke.
